Very often our clients want to buy the entire project realisation. They send us a brief, expecting a price list and a deadline. In their opinion, this way will let them build the product quickly and focus on its development later on. However, if you take a look at the companies with spectacular success in  e-business, you will see that most of them build their own IT solutions.

If you want IT to be your leverage in business, the technology is your key competence. Outsourcing it would not make any sense – you do not outsource your key competences. An external supplier may deliver the project within the time and budget set. However, it will only be a decent quality project. Working in IT very often means doing something for the first time – it’s difficult to estimate the time needed.  Teams who have the budget and the deadline fixed compromise quality. As a result, the software they create is acceptable but not exceptional. Such a product will not differentiate your company from its competition.

Wherever the quality of an IT product matters, you need to create your own team. Of course, it doesn’t mean it must consist of the company’s employees only.  When entering a new area of business, you need highly experienced specialists at your disposal. This is why, companies such as Divante, more and more often team up with their clients to build ‘shared teams’, who work together on a product.

The work share often looks like this:

  • Product Owner – client
  • Scrum Master / PM – Divante
  • Developers  – Divante
  • Junior Developer  – client
  • UX – client or Divante
  • Frontend Developers – client or Divante

It’s important for the client to have at least one technical person who can:

  • monitor the work progress and quality
  • do small, but urgent tasks
  • facilitate the contact with the client’s other IT staff

Such a virtual team cooperates to ensure the client a full control over the application creation. The client doesn’t rely entirely on the supplier – they have their own technical competences and the confidence that the application will meet high standards (tests and documentation).

This model creates perfect working conditions also for a company like Divante: We save our time not having to constantly reassure the client about the quality of our work, and we have a motivated team. The team knows they are creating a high quality product and they feel that they are a part of it – they will keep on developing the product in the future.

We often help our client to hire a proper IT staff. Frequently, we first start working on a project and then the client decides to take on a technical person who will cooperate with Divante’s team, learning quickly along the way. This allows the client to employ even a less experienced staff and train them without any additional costs. For the employee, on the other hand, cooperating with the team of experienced colleagues is often a life chance to raise qualifications.

This model works so well that it has dominated our sales within just a few months. It’s worth taking into consideration when planning a new IT project and looking for a supplier.
